The Current Events group will meet on Friday, November 20 at 1:00 pm in the large meeting room at the West End Library.
Join a conversation about the results of the November 3 elections with former Congressman Henry Waxman. He will discuss what just happened, some of what it means in terms of critical pending issues, and what the work of the Congress will be in the next two years and more.
Henry Waxman represented West Los Angeles, including West Hollywood, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, from 1975 to 2015. He served as chair of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health and the Environment for many years, as well as ranking member and then chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee from 1997 onward, and as chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee from 2009. He was instrumental in passing critical legislation on food, drugs, the environment, and healthcare, and in pushing for meaningful oversight of the Iraq War and major corruption issues. Bill Maher called him one of the “work horses” in Congress, as opposed to the “show horses.”
