Foggy Bottom West End Village

Foggy Bottom West End Village (FBWEV) opened in 2013 and has been a thriving community organization since then.  The Village is led by a capable Board of Directors and supported by hard working committee members and service volunteers each of whom offer their talents and time as they can.

Our founding members laid the groundwork for a strong and healthy organization.  We have grown since then, increasing membership, expanding services and program offerings, and building stronger networks among members.  We are currently developing a three-year strategic plan which will call the Village to continue growing in strength and size.

Recent village-wide surveys and focus groups provided feedback that members have a very high satisfaction level with the Village and plan to continue their membership. Over 90% of older Americans want to remain in their home for as long as possible and FBWE Village helps make that possible.

FBWE Village is one of 13 villages in the District of Columbia, each of which offers membership to residents living in their catchment area.  Village leadership meets regularly to share information and find ways to increase efficiency.  The group has some shared funding, particularly a grant from the District’s Department on Aging and Community Living which is managed by our village and distributed to all the DC Villages.

We are also one of 75 villages in the metropolitan area and belong to the Washington Area Village Exchange (WAVE) which is the umbrella organization for these villages.  The Washington, DC metro area has the highest concentration of villages in the country.   We are also a member of the national umbrella organization for villages, the Village to Village Network.
