It’s never too late to celebrate a special birthday! Come see works of art that tell the story of the founding of the United States as an independent nation, including this unique diorama showing the Declaration of Independence based on John Trumbull’s painting in the Capitol Rotunda, as well as other genres. Why did the colonies rebel?  What role did other nations, including indigenous peoples, have in its birth? Was it a world war? Was emancipation considered? What were the consequences?

Lorna Grenadier, Villager and NPG docent, will be our guide as we do some time travel.

Accessibility: There are two ramps on either side of the 8th and G St. entrances. Wheelchairs and camp stools are available.

Transportation:  NPG can be reached via Metro (either to Metro Center and walk from 11th St NW east 2 blocks or transfer to Red Line which is directly below the museum.
