This presentation is inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese art of forest bathing. It is based on the premise that being immersed in the atmosphere of the forest improves well-being. Forests provide a sense of peace, calm, joy, and wonder. Lynn always lived in urban environments and had not appreciated what nature had to offer until after she retired and slowed down enough to really absorb its gifts. Forests are an example of the kind of natural place she has grown to love. She will share images from places including redwood forests in northern California, the Great Smoky Mountains, rain forests in Olympic National Park, and the Capital Crescent Trail here in DC. She chose these images because they are the kinds of scenes that evoke the wondrous feelings she experiences when she takes the time to be still and embrace what surrounds her with all her senses.

Note: The West End Library's large meeting room has a system that transmits a quality sound signal wirelessly to all functioning hearing aids in the meeting room. No special application is needed to make the connection with the hearing aid. For anyone with hearing impairment but without a hearing aid, a hearing loop system in the meeting room also transmits a similar signal through the use of a hearing loop worn around his/her neck. If you wish to use a hearing loop, please ask the person at the Library's Front Desk prior to the meeting for the hearing loop.
