Beginning on January 13 and weekly for three more weeks, Karen La Du will offer the following classes to be held in the dining room at St. Paul’s Church at 2 pm. Art making engages and challenges the executive functioning area of the brain. Karen La Du’s projects will be creative and fulfilling even for the art making novice.

You will have the opportunity  to make creative choices that have personal meaning involve self - discovery. Karen has taught for 35 years and has successfully shared many of these same projects with students from age 3 to 83. All are welcome. If you have lots of trouble with your fine motor skills you might find the projects challenging but certainly not impossible.

Karen will bring a sample(s) for reference so that nothing is overwhelming to anyone no matter their lack of art making experience. Projects will not involve dangerous tools and will be drawn from successful past workshops. There is never a right or wrong result, only an “I created this myself” proud result.

I’m sure you will surprise yourself with your creativity!

Project #1:  one-page zine
Using one piece of 8.5 x 11” paper we’ll fold and make one cut to create a small book. Each page can then be filled with a pattern as we explore uses of line and color. Students can move on to a larger version when completed.

Project #2: NeuroGraphic Art
Neuron: A cell that carries messages
Graphic: Artistic use of pictures shapes and words NeuroGraphic Art links consciousness and sub-consciousness
Using 8 x 10” drawing paper, students will follow step by step as we use lines and shapes to create an overall design which we fill in with color.

Project #3: Oil Pastels one point perspective
Follow a step-by-step lesson to draw a cake in the style of the American artist Wayne Thiebaud.

Project #4: Watercolor silhouette
We will paint a background using a limited palette and a wet on wet method with watercolors. When dry, participants will choose a stencil(s) to trace and color in with black Sharpie marker to result in a dramatic composition.

There will be four classes of 1.5 hours for a fee of $5 per class or $20 for all four classes.  Materials will be provided by the Village or by the teacher at no charge unless you wish to purchase them for your personal use.  More information about materials will be provided after you sign up.
