Jacqueline G. Lemire
Pablo Zuniga, former OAS diplomat and Board Member, Friends of the Art Museum of the Americas, will guide you through the grand spaces where representatives of the nations of the Americas and observer states have been meeting since 1910.  The classical and global styles of the building are perfectly suited to the work of OAS which is based on the four main pillars of democracy, human rights, security and development.

The tour continues underground where you will engage with Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez Vilaro’s colorful and symbolic mural that covers one side of a tunnel connecting the main OAS building with an administrative building.  It is believed to be one of the longest murals in the world.

The tour ends at the Art Museum of the Americas which holds one of the world’s leading collections of modern art of the Americas. The Spanish Colonial-style structure was formerly the official residence of the OAS Secretary General. (Please note that there is limited access in this building – there is no elevator to the second floor where the art is displayed.  Only the first floor is accessible.)

Directions:
  • Arrive at the main entrance to the Organization of American States, 17th and Constitution Ave, NW, ten (10) minutes prior to the scheduled time to proceed through security. Bring a photo identification and wear walking shoes.
  • If you are unable to navigate stairs and need elevator access in the main building, there will be someone to guide you to an elevator and then you can meet up with the entire group.
Cost: $10.00 (The tour fee of $25 has been underwritten by the Village so that the cost to each Village member is $10.)

NOTE: Registration will close when tour has reached capacity OR on March 18 whichever comes sooner.

Please leave a comment when you register if you will require step free or elevator access.
